Description
Birds' eggs, historical artwork. This collection shows the variation in egg colours and patterns. Such patterning is mainly for camouflage, which helps to protect the eggs from predators. The eggs here are from pied flycatcher (blue, top left), meadow pipit (top centre), tree pipit (top right), dunlin (upper left), corncrake (or landrail, upper right), Richardson's skua (large, centre), widgeon (white, lower right), golden plover (bottom left) and skylark (bottom right).
