Description
Adult male and female Cynthia Silkmoths (Samia cynthia). Newly hatched females stay put, attracting males using scent. Like all silkworm moths, Cynthias are large, with a wingspan of 4-5 inches. They were introduced from Asia in 1860 in a failed effort to start a new silk trade. They are a popular species, easily bred in captivity, and have been crossed with other giant silkworm moths. Duval County, Florida.
