Description
These Rainbow Shiners (Notropis chrosomus) are only partly colored up. When spawning, males will have a lot more red on the body and much more brilliant colors. Males aggregate over the nests of other fishes, particularly fishes that make rock mounds for their eggs. Rainbow shiners deposit their eggs on the mound where they will develop with the eggs of the species that made the nest. These were photographed in Ocoee County, Tennessee, USA, 2019.
