Description
A blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna). This type of large parrot is found throughout South and Central America. It is endangered due to loss of its habitat and capture for the pet trade. It is zygodactylous, with two toes facing front and two toes facing back that grip in opposition. Macaws are the largest birds in the parrot family and are known to live for 80 years in captivity. This macaw was photographed at the Jacksonville Zoo in Florida.
