Zebra Longwing Butterfly (Heliconius charitonius) on flower. Florida State Insect since 1996. Eats the poisonous sap of passionflowers to develop toxicity. Nests at night in large colonies. Easily mistaken for the Zebra Swallowtail Butterfly whose stripes run vertically. Jacksonville, Florida.
