Description
Pupa of a cracker butterfly, (Hamadryas guatemalena), found from Mexico to Brazil. Within the butterfly pupa or chrysalis, the tissues of the larva break down and reorganize into the adult form. The pupa is very susceptible to predation and mechanical injury. Since most injuries are fatal, lepidoptera pupae are most often cryptic.
