Description
College for Dressmaking, 1911 by Ernst Deutsch. Note the words "System grand chic" advertising French fashion. Ernst Deutsch (1887 - 1938), who called himself Dryden after 1916, was a universal designer in the best sense of the word. Whether he worked as a poster artist in Berlin and Vienna, a fashion designer for the menswear store on Graben in Vienna's city, an illustrator for the fashion magazines "Die Dame," and "Vogue," or as a costume designer for Marlene Dietrich, the results of his endeavors always flourished his unmistakable chic.
