Description
Excised stinger of a Honeybee (Apis mellifera). The needle-like stinger itself is seen at right and the large bag-like object at left is the poison sac. On either side of the stinger are chitinous plates which form part of the outer tip covering of the abdomen. The stinger is a modification of the female ovipositor or egg-laying apparatus.
