Description
A Harbor seal (Phoca vitulina) on the beach of Grand Manan Island off the shore of New Brunswick Canada. These seals often compete with fisherman for limited supplies of fish. This particular animal was two months old and had been shot in a flipper and in the stomach. The seal only lived a few hours after the photograph was taken. It is a common and legal for fisherman to shoot seals found in weirs or fish traps.
