The serrated proboscis is brown, and the bacteria borrelia burgdorferi can be seen as long green rods. The tick's proboscis is used to penetrate the skin of the host during feeding. Ixodes ricinusis a parasitic mite that can feed on mammalian, avian or reptilian blood. It causes lyme desease by transmitting b. burgdorferi bacteria to the host while feeding.
