Description
The Sidewinder, Crotalus cerastes, is a venomous pit-viper from the southwestern United States. The common name "sidewinder" comes from the peculiar mode of locomotion wherein the snake moves sideways, presumably a method that allows it to move over sand quickly and easily. Adults often burry in the sand with their eyes exposed. Maximum size for the species is just short of three feet. This individual photographed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2012.
