Powdery mildew. The mildew has germinated on the underside of an apple tree leaf. Enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of spores of a powdery mildew fungus (Mycotypha africana). Powdery mildew is a common plant disease caused by a numerous fungi. The name "powdery" mildew refers to the appearance of an infected plant. When infected, the leaves that look as if they have been dusted with powder. Magnification w=140.0 micrometers.
