Description
Color enhanced transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of a T-lymphocyte. T lymphocytes are white blood cells that play a critical role in the human immune response against viruses, bacteria, parasites, and tumors. T cells can recognize foreign antigenic peptides (short protein segments) from pathogens and tumor cells via a cell surface receptor called the T-cell antigen receptor or TCR. This recognition activates the cells into their defensive role.
