Description
Red blood cells change their form in hypertonic solutions and become "crenated". Two cells in this SEM micrograph have retained their original shape. SEM taken at 2 positions differing by a 10 degree angle produced a pair of stereo images. They have been assembled into a gray anaglyph. Viewing this image through a red-and-cyan pair of glasses shows its 3-dimensional nature - the crenated cell near the left lower corner comes conspicuously out from the monitor's plane. Enhanced SEM. Image width 15.6 micrometers; magnification 6410x if the image is printed 10 cm wide.
