Description
Amoxil, Amoxicillin - 500 mg caps - is a beta-lactam antibiotic used to treat infections caused by gram-positive bacteria (Streptococci, Enterococcus faecalis, non beta-lactamase-producing staphylococci) which are susceptible to it. Amoxil taken orally is better absorbed than other beta-lactam antibiotics. Amoxicillin may be degraded by beta-lactamase produced by some bacteria, so clavulanic acid is incorporated into the pills to protect the antibiotic. The trade name for this medicine produced by GlaxoSmithKline is Amoxil.
