Description
Map of Asia identifying many of the important trading stations used by Europeans at this period. Among them are Hormux, Goa and Malacca. Lesser ports, such as Rasht and Amul in Persia (Iran), are also identified. Sri Lanka bears its Arabic name, Zeilam, derived from the English Ceylon. Many of the coastlines were much travelled and therefore well drawn, but others are less accurately shown. The mythical Terra Australis Pars, with the entrance to the Gulf of Carpentaria separating the two areas of land, is beginning to assume a shape recognizable as Australia. Once again, an open-sea, northeast passage appears.
