Description
An 18th century angry mob attempting to force a stamp officer to resign, in an illustration by Howard Pyle from Harper's Magazine, March 1882. The Stamp Act of 1765 was a tax imposed by the British Parliament on the colonies of British America. It was deplored and resisted by the Americans, whose rallying cry of "No Taxation without Representation" helped foment the American Revolution.
