Description
Illustration showing bone resorption; osteoclasts (pink) are breaking down bone and releasing minerals (brown beads), to transfer calcium from the bone fluid into the blood. The diagram shows RANKL (green bean like structures) expression is induced in osteoblasts (pink structures), T lymphocytes (blue disc), and synovial fibroblasts (green petal). OPG (red wrapped around green bean structures) binds and neutralizes RANKL, leading to a block in osteoclastogenesis and decreased survival of pre-existing osteoclasts.
