Description
Amyloid beta (Abeta) is a peptide of 36-43 amino acids that is processed from the amyloid precursor protein (APP). It is as a component of the amyloid plaques found in Alzheimer's disease. This peptide aggregates into long fibrils that form dense plaques on the nerve cells. The gradual accumulation of these plaques, along with the accumulation of a second protein inside nerve cells, leads to the onset of dementia as the brain slowly loses normal function. PDB file1IYT
