Goliath bird-eating spider (once Mygale blondii, now Theraphosa blondi), as illustrated by Carl Wilhelm Hahn in his Monographia Aranearum, also known as Monographie der Spinnen, in the 1820s. The goliath bird-eater is the heaviest spider in the world, and it rarely eats birds.
