Artist's Description

Hippocratic treatment of joint dislocation,From the Commentary with illustrations of Apollonius of Kitum (1st century BC) on Hippocrates, found in a 9th century Greek surgical manuscript, Commentary of Apollonius of Kition, which contained this figure of surgeons reducing the dislocation. There is good reason to suppose that these miniatures were copied from figures first prepared in pre-Christian times many centuries earlier.
