Description
An Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) "spy-hopping" to see what is going on above the surface. Also known as the Common Bottlenose Dolphin, they are the most abundant dolphin species along the US from Cape Cod through the Gulf of Mexico. They are dark on the top half and very light on the botton half. The type of camouflage is called countershading. Their vision is very good both in the water and in the air. They can see colors. They have a limited sense of smell. They use a form of echolocation to find food. Research animal, South Florida.
