Description
An aerial view of Hiroshima, Japan, after the first atomic bomb was dropped on August 6th, 1945. This single nuclear bomb (nicknamed "Little Boy") destroyed almost all of the city's houses and buildings and instantly killed 80,000 people. The death toll continued to rise over the years, as survivors contracted cancers associated with radiation; ultimately the bomb claimed over 200,000 lives. On the extreme right of this picture can be seen the ruins of the Geibi Bank Building and Shima Hospital. The photo was taken October 6th, 1945.
