Description
Color-enhanced Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) of broken corn (maize) grains. Cell walls are clearly seen along with the starch granules inside the cell. Originally from Mexico, corn (Zea mays) is mainly used as fodder, but is also a staple food of humans. Corn starch is also used for the production of compostable bioplastics. Magnification is 3251, or 220x at 10 cm wide.
