Description
Cotton fabric used as face mask material. This SEM shows that the gaps are many micrometers in size, which allows a pollen grain, for example, to pass through without problem. Aerosols and virus particles are more than 100 times smaller than pollen grains. Nevertheless, such a mask does offer a certain amount of protection in slowing the spread of particles. Scanning electron micrograph; magnification 50x (when 15 cm wide).
