Fossil cyanobacteria. Light micrograph of fossilized Chlorellopsis coloniata (ovals), a type of freshwater cyanobacterium (blue-green alga). These specimens, from the Eocene epoch (55-38 million years ago), were found in Wyoming, USA. Brightfield illumination. Magnification x25 at 35 mm size.
