Artist's Description

Scientist use Actinomycetes from marine life to study new sources for novel treatments of cancer and to develop new classes of antibiotics. There is tremendous diversity among the actinomycetes present in marine environments. Actinomycetes are the most economically and biotechnologically valuable prokaryotes. A significant amount of effort has been focused on the successful isolation of novel actinomycetes from terrestrial sources for drug screening programs in the past fifty years.
