Description
Colorized woodcut illustration from Der gantzen Artzenei, 1542. This woodcut illustrates a man (left) studying astronomy with various tools of the trade. The man on the right rests in a chair. Johann Dryander (Eichmann) (June 27, 1500 - December 20, 1560) was a German anatomist, astronomer and physician. Dryander was one of the first textbook authors to illustrate with woodcuts and the first to illustrate a Galenic dissection of the human brain. As an astronomer, Dryander emerged as the author of textbooks describing and using astronomical instruments. This image has been colorized.
