Ironstone Concretion Neuropteris Seed "Fern;" collected at Mazon, IL. ~4" in length. Grew as vines, shrubs and trees that reached 50 feet in height. One of the most widespread of all Pennsylvanian Epoch seed ferns. A gymnosperm from the Carboniferous Period, some 300 million years ago. Specimen courtesy of Penn State University Museum.
