Artist's Description

Nylon stocking fibers. Light micrograph of the weave of a nylon stocking (ladies tights). Nylon is a polyamide substance, and the first synthetic fiber ever to be produced. Nylon fibers are stronger and more elastic than silk and are relatively insensitive to moisture and mildew. Nylon is used in the manufacture of molded articles, textiles (particularly hosiery and woven goods, including carpets), and medical sutures. Magnification x60 at 35mm size.
