Description
Color-enhanced Scanning Electron Micrograph (SEM) showing gold crystallized over several years from a colloidal gold solution. Colloidal gold is made up of small particles of gold suspended in a fluid or gel. The gold particles that have a diameter of 2 - 100 nm give the fluid solution a characteristic red color. Gold colloids can be used to give red coloration to eyeglasses. Aggregated gold colloids can be used to gild porcelain and ceramics. The optical and electronic properties of colloidal gold promise great advances in microelectronics and micro-sensors. Magnification 33,600x when printed at 10 cm wide.
