The Cowlitz burial site consisted of a great number of canoes that contained the bodies of Native Indians, each being carefully wrapped in blankets, and supplied with many of his personal effects in the form of jewelry, clothes, blankets, baskets, weapons and tools. Paul Kane (September 3, 1810 - February 20, 1871) was an Irish-born Canadian painter famous for his paintings of First Nations peoples in the Canadian West and in the Columbia District.
