Stipple engraving of Sir Christopher Wren by W. Holl after Sir G. Kneller. St. Paul's Cathedral can be seen in the background. Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723) was an English architect accorded responsibility for rebuilding 52 churches in the City of London after the Great Fire in 1666, including his masterpiece, St. Paul's Cathedral, completed in 1710. Apart from his work as an architect, Wren was also a notable anatomist, astronomer, geometer, and mathematician-physicist. He was a founder of the Royal Society (president 1680-82).
