Description
llustration of insulin and glucose production in Type 2 diabetes. Insulin (purple triangles) is produced by islet cells in the pancreas, and acts in unison with glucose (red dots) to regulate energy in the body's cells. In Type 2 Diabetes, as shown here, the body develops high blood glucose levels due to insulin resistance or relative insulin deficiency. Also shown in the diagram are glucose transporters (GLUT-4), and the insulin receptors.
