Description
Gilbert Chemistry Outfit, 1930-39. A chemistry set is an educational toy allowing the user (child/teenager) to perform simple chemistry experiments. Chemistry sets reached their heyday in the 1950s, but production of them began in the United States during WWI. Playing with a toy chemistry set inspired many a boy to become a chemist, and not until the late 1950s were girls considered an appropriate market.
