Description
Color enhanced scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of metastasis, the spread of cancer cells. Cancer cells usually spread via blood stream or the lymph system. Scientists have identified a protein, named autocrine motility factor (AMF), that causes cancer cells to grow "arms" or pseudopodia, enabling them to migrate to other parts of the body. Locomotion is integral to the entire process of metastasis.
