Description
Steelhead trout jumping falls on Selway River, Idaho. Steelhead are sea-run rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). These fish are anadromous they return to their original hatching ground to spawn and when young remain in the river for about a year before heading to sea. Different steelhead populations migrate upriver at different times of the year. Columbia River steelhead are "summer-run", mature fully in the ocean before migrating to the Snake River and its tributaries, including the Clearwater and Selway rivers in Idaho.
