Scarlet Ibis (Eudocimus ruber), one of the most beautiful wading birds in Florida. They range from Central America and Northern South America and were introduced into Florida as part of a breeding program in 1962. Its name is derived from Greek meaning 'religious worship, sacred bird''; images of the bird can be found in 4000 year old Egyptian wall paintings. Jacksonville Zoo, Florida.
