Artist's Description

Entitled Colonel Sherrell, Superintendent of Public Buildings and Grounds, has issued an order that bathing suits at the Washington bathing beach must not be over six inches above the knee. Bill Norton the bathing beach policeman measuring distance between knee and bathing suit on woman, 1922. Fashion history was shocked into the 20th century with some of the newer all revealing figure hugging swimsuits that revealed the body limbs more clearly than ever before.
