Description
"Hope it Gets There Fast!" A young boy struggling to put his letters into a Doremus-style mailbox, c. 1880. Mailboxes of this type, designed by Willard D. Doremus, were not very strong. The lip covering the letter slot could easily break, allowing rain or snow to dampen the letters.
