Description
Carbapenem-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE). According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) bacteria are on the rise among patients in medical settings. CRE have become resistant to all or nearly all antibiotics. Almost half of hospital patients who get bloodstream infections from CRE bacteria die from the infection. Some Enterobacteriaceae are resistant to nearly all antibiotics, including carbapenems, which are often considered the antibiotics of last resort.
