Marble portrait head of the Emperor Constantine I, aka Constantine the Great, ca. A.D. 325–370. Constantine l is known as the first Christian emperor of Rome, reigning from AD 306 to 337. He built a new Roman imperial residence at Byzantium and renamed the city Constantinople, the seat of the thousand-year Byzantine Empire.
