Description
Cyclopteris, large leaves, (2" to 3"), found at leaf bases of the seed "fern" Neuropteris - Grew as vines, shrubs and trees that reached 50 feet in height. One of the most widespread of all Pennsylvanian Epoch seed ferns. Not a true fern, which reproduced with spores, Neuropteris was a "seed fern," which were precursors to modern plants. A gymnosperm from the Carboniferous Period, some 300 million years ago.
