Description
The extinct Dusky Seaside Sparrow (Ammodramus maritimus nigrescens) was found in the salt marshes of Merritt Island, Florida, and along the St. John's River. The last definite known individual died on June 17, 1987, and the subspecies was officially declared extinct in December 1990. Pesticides, habitat loss, and pollution all contributed to the demise of this subspecies.
