Description
Two wild fruit flies (Drosophila sp.). Many genes can affect Drosophila eye pigments. Some of these cause the absence of the normal brown pigment and appear red, such as this fly on the left. Others lack bright red pigment and appear ruby or brown. Still others, like this one on the right, may lack both pigments and appear white.
