Artist's Description
Entitled: "Mouse-trap armor for caddies - here is the newest safety device seen on California links" shows caddy Mozart Johnson wearing the latest safety device for golf courses fashioned from wire-mesh and worn over the head and upper torso to protect caddies and ball-retrievers from wild golf balls. Circa 1920s. In golf, a caddy (or caddie) is the person who carries a player's bag and clubs, and gives insightful advice and moral support. A good caddy is aware of the challenges and obstacles of the golf course being played, along with the best strategy in playing it. This includes knowing overall yardage, pin placements and club selection.
