Amphipods are crustaceans and they are related to shrimp and crabs. Found in the Ozarks of Northeast Oklahoma, this groundwater amphipod (Stygobromus species) can reach large sizes for a groundwater amphipod, up to three quarters of inch in total length. Pigmentless and eyeless, the amphipods are found in cave waters and sometimes in springs. This specimen was photographed in Oklahoma's Ozarks, 2011.
