Description
View of the exterior of Bogota's main Cathedral. Located on the East side of the Plaza de Bolivar, the construction is of huge architectonic proportions. It was designed by the monk Domingo de Petres. Construction dates to the 15th century. On this site, the first mass was said following the founding of Bogota in 1538. The remains of Gonzalo Jimenez de Quesada, the founder of Bogota rest here. He was the conquistador who, carried on a stretcher, went looking for 'El Dorado', the legendary city of gold.
