Lake Vostok micro-organism SEM. Micro-organism was found in Lake Vostok under ice up to 4 meters thick in Antarctica. The ice surrounding these fresh water organism is as old as 400,000 years old depending on the depth. Due to geothermal heat this organism who's nickname is Klingon, is able to survive in the lake's liquid. Because of the rare living conditions of this organism, scientist are rethinking the possibilities of life in other places in the universe like Europa, Jupiter's moon, or the Martian ice caps.
