Description
Scanning electron micrograph of the raw material used to make lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion batteries should not be confused with lithium batteries. In Lithium batteries, the anode is made of metallic lithium, and is therefore flammible if the battery is damaged and exposed to moisture. In lithium ion batteries, the anode is made from layered oxidized metal that the ions can migrate through. Lithium ion batteries do not contain lithium, and are therefore not flammable. These batteries are safe to used in everyday electronic devices such as cameras, cellular phones and laptop computers. Magnification x2000 at 12x12 cm.
